Hands-on, On-site Training
Dental offices ready to hire

"The traditional college model is broken.  I should know, I was a college president for 12 years  before I started The Apprentice Academy."

                                                                                                                                                                                               -Dr. Thomas Wicke

Get the same job, better training, and learn in the office of one of the largest dental providers in Colorado.  The dental office is your classroom as you learn from experts who are practicing dentistry every day.

An apprenticeship allows dental assistants to learn in the real world, quickly and in a safe, nurturing environment from companies who want to hire you once you demonstrate your competencies.  We are 100% based in Colorado.  You will have a personal apprenticeship mentor who is available to you all the way through your completion/employment date!    It is personal because it's your future career.

Apprenticeships are a more efficient and effective training model for students, dental practices and the general public.

Apprenticeship vs. traditional college

50%-75% less than cost of colleges

College Dental Assistant programs should not cost $10,000 to $17,000!  Get the same knowledge and better hands-on training from an apprentice program for less than half the cost!  Get to the same career/job faster and without the debt.

Major Dental Partners

You could be working in your future dental office from the beginning of your program.  Our partners are looking to hire, that is why they are investing in our apprenticeship program and providing mentors.  They want to hire you!

Flexible Scheduling

Our program is designed to fit the demands of your current life demands (children, job, etc.) and gets you into a paid Dental Assistant position as quick as you are committed to learn and master the skills. We know you can't stop everything for an 8 hour externship for 2 months.  An apprenticeship is different!

Complete & work 2 to 3 times quicker

Our accelerated path ensures you enter the workforce twice as fast (if not faster) as students in traditional academic programs which are 9 to 12 months long. This means you get employed and start earning money sooner!  Same training, same end result... just faster!

1-on-1 Training

No large classes and limited supplies. Unlike a college class with many students, an apprentice program is an individual 1-on-1 training program with mentors in the actual dentist office.  This real-world environment greatly speeds up the effectiveness of the learning process.  PLUS, you have local personal TAA mentor assigned to you the entire time.

Certificate Program

Once you complete the Apprentice program you will have everything you need to work as a DA in Colorado.  As one of the local colleges admits on their website: "The starting salary for a DA does not have anything to do with how long you spent in school or how much you paid for your schooling."  They know it is all about competence in skills  -which is at the heart of apprenticeship programs.

The clinic is the classroom

Aside from the first couple weeks of core knowledge (so the apprentice is comfortable with dental basics), ALL training is in the dentist office with the mentoring of an experienced professional as you work with the latest dental technologies and equipment.

No Financial Aid needed

Colleges artificially make programs longer (which makes them more expensive) so they can benefit from financial aid funds. Apprentice program do NOT accept government FA funds.  That saves you a lot of time and paperwork.  It also saves your FA eligibility for future advanced programs like dental hygiene.

The Role of a Dental Assistant

DA photo1.jpg

Dental assistants perform a number of functions within a clinic. As key members of a dentistry team, dental assistants exist to help improve the quality and efficiency of a clinic, both administratively at the front of the office and clinically in the examination room. The type of work that dental assistants do depends on the dental clinic they work at and the state where the dental clinic is located.

So, if you’re considering a career as a dental assistant, you should keep in mind that you should be willing to take on multiple roles. Dental assistants work closely with nearly everyone on a dental clinic staff: dentists, hygienists, office managers, billing professionals, lab staff, and of course patients.

Again, the specific tasks a dental assistant may take on can vary considerably from clinic to clinic. However, here are some of the tasks most dental assistants can expect to perform:

  • Answering phones and scheduling appointments

  • Updating and maintaining patient dental records

  • Overseeing patient check-in procedures

  • Coding and preparing insurance forms

  • Scheduling referral and testing appointments

  • General office administration

  • Showing patients to their exam rooms

  • Preparing patients for procedures and/or surgeries

  • Assisting with procedures such as fillings, crowns, and extractions

  • Making dental impressions

  • Sterilizing dental tools and equipment

  • Post-procedure clean-up

  • Generally chairside assisting of dentists and hygienists
